Stock up on the sales without the guilt!

Holiday Bins
How many times have you bought a present for someone and then forget where you put it? Or you saved so much money buying great 4th of July decorations, only to find them on the 6th of July?

Were you aware that the majority of holidays we decorate for all fall in a 6 – 7 month period? The months of October thru April we celebrate Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Years Eve, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day and Easter. The other 6 months we celebrate Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Father’s Day, and Labor Day. Not really big decorating occasions.

Since the holiday rush is finally over, now is the perfect time to get a jump on organizing for those holidays. You may have even picked up some new Easter decorations on sale. Now you will have a place to store them.

First step, you’ll need some large plastic storage containers. Make sure your storage bins match, this helps when stacking them. I have to say my Christmas ones don’t match the other ones, because I bought those containers on sale after Christmas. So do what works for you.

Next step, you get to have fun and create some nice labels on your computer using clip art.  Use the whole page so they will be easily seen. I love using clip art, because , the picture says it all, I don’t really have to look at the words. You can attach them on the outside using a plastic paper protector or you can just put the paper inside the container if it is a clear one. I prefer to put them on the inside, since we store them in the basement which can get damp sometimes.

The final step is to put all your decorations in the appropriate bin.  Now being the perfect time to let go of some decorations you don’t love, or you have never used. Look around your house to find some items you only use for certain holidays. See if you are storing egg dying kits in the kitchen.  Now you can stay in the holiday bin, freeing up prime space in your home.

Having a place for all your holiday decorations makes celebrating that much more fun.  Be creative!  Who knows, with this easy process, you might even start decorating for Presidents day, Cinco de Mayo, or Earth Day.

Wishing You an Uncluttered Life!
